The Media Room

The Mabou Mines Media room at their 50th Anniversary play festival was an exploration of how a theater company that is historically at the cutting edge of media and technology documented their craft. The gadgets and gizmos that make a Mabou Mines archive possible are also put on display here. Memory keeping devices like slide projectors,  VHS players, overhead projectors, photo negatives, photographs, modern-day projectors, and streamed online video content all make this interactive archive gallery more than a documentation of the history of Mabou Mines. It also shows how artists have documented their process over the last 50 years and leads viewers through a half century of innovation in documentation technology and New York City’s avante-garde theater movement.
